STATEMENT OF FAITH
As people of St. Peter's United Church of Christ,
affirming our Statement of Faith, we seek to participate in God's
mission and to follow the way of the crucified and risen Christ,
empowered by the Holy Spirit, we are called and commit ourselves:
† To praise God,
confess our sin, and joyfully accept God's forgiveness;
† To proclaim the
gospel of Jesus Christ in our suffering world;
† To embody God's
love for all people;
† To identify the
ills of society around us and confront them with whatever means we can;
† To bind ourselves
with the all-encompassing love and concern that Jesus set forth in his
earthly ministry;
† To seek in holy
love to address "the cries in the wilderness" of those who hurt
spiritually, physically, and emotionally;
† To embrace the
unity of Christ's church recognizing that this means we are all brothers
and sisters in the family of God;
† To open our hearts
and minds to the possibilities that exist for us to be of service to one
another;
† To embrace the call
to discipleship as a call for putting our faith into actions and our
actions to be out of faith as we strive to serve the Lord with all our
heart, all our soul, and all our strength.
From its roots in a German immigrant community and the German Evangelical churches, St. Peter’s United Church of Christ has seen many times of change over the years. Through them all we have remained a faithful, gathered community who believe in the grace and love found through the risen Christ. We continue to look toward the future, finding new ways to serve Christ in the world as we “seek in holy love to address ‘the cries in the wilderness’ of those who hurt spiritually, physically, and emotionally.”
